Instinct is the inherent disposition of a living organism toward a particular behavior. The fixed action patterns are unlearned and inherited. The stimuli can be variable due to imprinting in a sensitive period or also genetically fixed. Examples of instinctual fixed action patterns can be observed in the behavior of animals, which perform various activities (sometimes complex) that are not based upon prior experience, such as reproduction, and feeding among insects. Sea turtles, hatched on a beach, automatically move toward the ocean, and honeybees communicate by dance the direction of a food source, all without formal instruction. Other examples include animal fighting, animal courtship behavior, internal escape functions, and building of nests. Another term for the same concept is innate behavior.

Instinctual actions - in contrast to actions based on learning which are served by memory and which provide individually stored successful reactions built upon experience - have no learning curve, they are hard-wired and ready to use without learning. Some instinctual behaviors depend on maturational processes to appear.

Biological predispositions are innate biologically vectored behaviors that can be easily learned. For example in one hour a baby colt can learn to stand, walk, glide, skip, hop and run. Learning is required to fine tune the neurological wiring reflex like behavior. True reflexes can be distinguished from instincts by their seat in the nervous system; reflexes are controlled by spinal or other peripheral ganglia, but instincts are the province of the brain.

What is a gut instinct and how does it work?
Q. Would you say it's the intuition, or different? What's your definition of intuition/gut instinct? ...And do you rely on logic and reason or your gut instinct?
Asked by Paradise C - Mon Sep 21 01:53:50 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Gut instinct is something that's almost subconscious that grabs at you and tells you to react in a certain way to a situation. Some situations you may get into, you won't have time to use reason or logic so it really depends on the situation. If you have more time to reason out the situation, see if you can reason against your gut instinct, especially if it's let you down in the past.

How can you tell the difference between gut instinct & paranoia?
Q. Today my boss asked me if my mom could come to my place of employment on Thursday at 5 p.m. to translate a conversation between a lawyer and another hispanic man. He said he would pay her $100 which she agreed to. My boss knows English well but maybe not enough to translate. For some reason I have a really ugly feeling in my stomach about this. Is this paranoia or instinct? Could it be that I've lost one parent and am just extremely protective of my mother? Thanks!

A. Not enough information. Think within yourself. What worries you about your mother doing some work for your boss? Has your boss done anything in the past to make you suspicious of his intentions? Has your mother? If you can find the reason for your unease, then you can decide whether it is realistic or not.

How can i change the service on a sprint phone to sprint samsung instinct?
Q. I heard that you could call customer service to do that but, when i got my phone they told me that if i wanted a samsung instinct i would have to add a data service to my plan so i got another phone. If i buy a samsung instinct from someone do i still have to get the data service?
Asked by Daniel - Sat May 9 11:27:17 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. you have to get the data service if you want to run the internet and e-mail. But if you are just using the phone for just a phone than you dont even have to talk to anyone. Go to sprint.com and you can transfer your phone online. its easy and takes 10 minutes. and you dont have people pressing you to buy other plans
