From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. A stable is a building in which livestock, especially horses, are kept. It most commonly means a building that is divided into separate stalls for individual animals. There are many different types of stables in use today such as the American barn which is a large barn with a door each end and individual stalls inside or free standing stables with the classic top and bottom opening doors. The term "stable" is also used to describe a group of animals kept by one owner, regardless of housing or location. A horse stable, over 100 years old, still in use Traditional style barn, built 1802, still used as a horse stable A modest stable with a few stalls A shed row-style stable at a riding club in Panama. The exterior design of a stable can vary widely, based on climate, building materials, historical period, and cultural styles of architecture. A wide range of building materials can be used, including masonry (bricks or stone), wood, and steel. Stables can range widely in size, from a small building to house only one or two animals, to facilities used at agricultural shows or at race tracks, which can house hundreds of animals. GNU Free Documentation License How do you ask for stable work in return for lessons? Q. I just started riding at this stable and I really like it there but we can't afford to go there very often. How do I bring up the topic with out sounding to desperate and cheap. The lessons are an hour long and $30. It might not sound like a lot for some people but it is expensive to do as much as I would like to do it. Asked by Totally Different - Thu Aug 21 13:57:06 2008 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments A. Ask your barn manager/owner for a chance to discuss alternatives to full-priced lessons. It is important you acknowledge that it is a privilege to ride for reduced or no cost, so make it clear that you intend to work hard and honestly for the opportunity. I own and operate a boarding and lesson barn and often barter with my students for reduced cost or free lessons. I believe an enthusiastic rider is a great addition to the barn. I generally offer one 45-minute private lesson ($40 value) for 4 hours of barn chores (stall mucking, feeding, cleaning water buckets, etc...) If you are experienced you may even find an owner that would love to have someone exercise their horse once or twice a week. Make sure you talk to the barn manager… [cont.] Answered by Regina P - Thu Aug 21 14:40:10 2008 How stable is the tectonic plate in the northeast of the USA as compared to the plate near california? Asked by lumendelsol - Thu Dec 10 17:55:33 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. There will always be faults, and the US Northeast is surprisingly complicated, due to a complex geologic history. However, the East Coast is a passive margin, thousands of miles from any major tectonic boundary (in this case, the Mid-Atlantic Ridge). All it does (as a generality) is keep drifting away. Look at a map of earth with the oceans removed, and you'll see the gentle, long slope of the continental shelf, the dropping continental margin, and the fairly quiet and extensive distance to the MAR. Yes, earthquakes happen, but compared to other places, it's very boring. Out here on the West Coast, where I live, is an active margin. Q. \Pokes the title ? The full question is Would a buffer aid or hinder the maintenance of a relatively stable environment within a living cell in a changing external environment? Thanks in advanced. :D A buffer with a pH of 8, by the way. Asked by Lazaro - Tue Oct 7 16:32:19 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. Essentially, a buffer solution is one which resists a change in pH - that is, the addition of acids or bases to a buffer does not cause as large a change in pH as it would to an ordinary acidic/basic/neutral solution. Since environmental pH can vary (acidic, basic, or neutral) and many reactions inside cells are optimized for a specific pH level, a buffer aids the maintenance of a stable environment inside a cell.
